Astronomy Coursework at UM-Dearborn

At the present time, the Department of Natural Sciences offers three courses in astronomy, all taught by faculty in the Physics Discipline. Click on the links below to see the official catalog description and scheduling frequency for each of these courses.

PHYS 130 "Introduction to Astronomy" is a one semester 3-credit course for non-science majors that is offered every Fall and Summer II term.
PHYS 131 "Introductory Astronomy Laboratory" is a 1-credit laboratory course requiring either previous or concurrent enrollment in PHYS 130. It is also taught in both the Fall and Summer II terms.
PHYS 421 "Astrophysics" is an upper-division offering whose focus is the application of physical principles to astronomical systems. PHYS 305 "Contemporary Physics" and MATH 215 "Calculus III" are both required pre-requisite courses for PHYS 421.
